Acupuncture is the general term for acupuncture and moxibustion.
Acupuncture refers to piercing a needle (usually a filiform needle) into the patient at a certain angle under the guidance of the theory of Chinese medicine, and using acupuncture techniques such as twisting and lifting to stimulate specific parts of the human body to achieve the purpose of curing diseases . The point of penetration is called the human body acupoint, or acupoint for short. According to the latest statistics on acupuncture and moxibustion textbooks, the human body has 361 serious meridian points.
Moxibustion uses prefabricated moxibustion sticks or moxibustion grass to burn and iron on certain acupoints on the body surface, using heat stimulation to prevent and treat diseases. Generally, wormwood is the most commonly used, so it is called moxibustion. There are other methods such as medicinal moxibustion, wicker moxibustion, wick moxibustion, and mulberry moxibustion. Nowadays, moxibustion is often used in people’s lives.

What to Expect

Does it hurt? Acupuncture needles can elicit a unique feeling that we describe as “de qi”. It may feel like a wave, condensation of energy. Sometime it may feel like a shock of a electricity. But all sensation are momentary, and will pass quickly. It is important to communicate with your practitioner in these moments to ensure your comfort. Other than the sensation described, acupuncture should not hurt.

Bruising? Bruising may occur anytime we puncture the skin. If you cannot have bruises on some area of the body, please inform your practitioner.

Feeling of Relaxed or Sleepy? It is common to feel relaxed or sleepy after treatment so avoid getting up too quickly and rushing anywhere directly after treatment. Give yourself time to adjust after treatment before driving or using the stairs or any other potentially dangerous activity.

Infection? It is possible to develop an infection whenever the skin is punctured despite using single use disposable needles and clean needle technique. Please inform us if you have a known immune problem so we can take special precautions.
